I’ve been sitting with my fingers glued to the keyboard but unable to get my digits to move. I’m frozen because I am trying to incorporate more technology in my business, which is, to me, like navigating a huge mansion in the dark. Where’s the light switch?
But the truth is, without going through some dark times, we cannot recognize our transformation, like the phoenix rising out of the ashes.
Luckily, I have my own structures and habits to keep “in action” while I’m sorting out the tech transition of my business development. But, in that process, I’ve found that with all the work ON the business, I neglected some working IN the business, which brings its own set of challenges. Getting myopic about one’s work creates a HOT MESS. I bring myself some relief by standing back, identifying the area I’m neglecting, and getting to work on cleaning up that hot mess I created.
It’s essential to keep relevant and provide the value that is needed and wanted in the marketplace. But how do I know what that need/want is? It takes constant research.
So I ask you now, what keeps you up at night?
Here’s what I know for sure … I have many, many happy clients who have or are transforming their lives and businesses because of our work together. Once they start with me, they usually stay for many years. Even when I find myself knee-deep in a hot mess, I know I can stay productive while I dig myself out … and, with the right support, you can, too.
Step away, take a walk, take a 3- or 4-day break, or even a vacation. Disengage. When you come back, you’ll see your challenges with a fresh pair of eyes.
Do a brain dump; then, organize and prioritize that brain dump into a plan that is workable for you.
Find an accountability partner to keep you honest about those deadlines. Use those deadlines to stay focused on the bullet points on your plan until it’s done.
Keep in mind that your plan and deadlines will DISAPPEAR the minute you take your attention off of it. That accountability partner is critical to moving your work forward.
We all find ourselves in the midst of chaos on occasion, some of which is of our own creation. To clean it up, get and stay in action in two ways: (1) Let me know what’s keeping you up at night; and (2) Follow the 3-step process above to work a plan that’s tailored for your success. And please, shoot me an email. I’d love to know how it works for you.
